Strong In Education

Schertz area schools offer exceptional access to a wealth of regional assets that include top-rated public and private K-12 schools, community college districts, and universities. These resources ensure Schertz businesses have access to an educated workforce. Schertz is located within five school districts, although three main school districts cover the majority of our community, enrolling nearly 46,000 students in the area.

K-12 (School Districts)

The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District (SCUC ISD) is located on the northeast side of San Antonio within a 73-square mile area that includes Bexar and Guadalupe counties. The district is currently home to seven elementary schools, three intermediate schools that house the district’s fifth- and sixth-graders, and two junior high schools.

The Comal Independent School District spans 589 square miles of central Texas, including parts of five counties: Comal, Bexar, Hays, Kendall, and Guadalupe. Seventeen elementary schools, five middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, one alternative high school of choice, and one alternative school make up the district.

The East Central Independent School District is located in the south eastern portion of Bexar County in Schertz. The district is home to one high school, two middle schools, two intermediate schools, and five elementary schools.

Higher Education

Community Colleges

The Alamo Colleges serves the San Antonio region through their programsITM-0039 [Original Resolution] and services that help students succeed in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed in today’s world. The five colleges — San Antonio (est. 1925), St. Philip’s (est. 1898), Palo Alto (est. 1985), Northeast Lakeview (est. 2007), and Northwest Vista (est. 1995) — offer associate degrees, certificates and licensures in occupational programs that prepare students for jobs, as well as arts and science courses that transfer to four-year colleges and universities and lead to AA and AS degrees.

Alamo College’s Corporate College provides state of the art workforce education training in manufacturing, health care, information technology, and  business leadership development. Additionally they offer customized training solutions for individuals and organizations, with classes offered on-site at the Workforce Center of Excellence, at their campuses, and in some cases can train at the company’s/business place of employment.  

Universities

Schertz location sits center to a wealth of top-rated public and private universities, community college districts, and first-tier research and development centers.  There are a total of 12 area institutions with enrollments of 150,000 students in the area. Over one-third of Schertz residents have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and these tremendous regional resources will continue to allow Schertz’s  workforce, residents, and prospective businesses with unmatched educational opportunities.
