Best Places to Live

Recognized as one of the Best Places to Live by Money Magazine, The City of Schertz is a city that embraces its past while continuing to look to its future. Schertz offers safe and beautiful neighborhoods, parks, premier school districts, healthcare, and recreational amenities for all ages.

Low Cost of Living

Schertz offers exceptional housing and lifestyle at an affordable cost. Our proximity of San Antonio offers nearby amenities and lifestyle. Workers within the San Antonio region experience a cost of living that ranks among the lowest in the United States for large metropolitan areas. San Antonio’s cost of living is 12.7 percentage points below the national average allowing employees paychecks to go further.

Single Family Homes

Schertz offers a variety of neighborhood selections that fit within a variety of family’s budgets. Throughout the City you and your family will find truly livable homes in vibrant communities with distinguished schools and amenities that complement any lifestyle. Recognized as being a premier community, Schertz attracts longstanding national home-builders that offer a beautiful array and styles of homes and master planned communities.

The Crossvine (pictured above), one of Schertz’ newest additions, is a master planned community and is located in the south portion of the city. The Crossvine is a 500+ acre community with unique neighborhoods that are designed to attract people in all stages of life  – professionals, young families, empty-nesters, and retirees. Residential development at the Crossvine will include traditional single family homes, garden homes, town-homes, multifamily clusters, and independent and assisted living facilities. The project will integrate commercial areas comprised of neighborhood services, retail, municipal, and medical uses.

Multi Family Homes

Schertz offers a variety of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartment homes, many of which are pet-friendly. Many offer convenient amenities that include washer/dryer connections, ceiling fans, private patio/balcony, cable ready, vaulted ceilings, extra storage, large walk in closets, resort style pools, gyms, and more.  A typical one bedroom apartment costs anywhere from $750 to $900 per month.

Military Community

Randolph Air Force Base, located adjacent to Schertz, serves as headquarters for both the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) as well as the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC). The Base is known as the ‘Showplace of the Air Force’ thanks to its Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture (in which all structures – including hangars – were constructed). Schertz has been ranked fifth on NerdWallet.com’s list of best cities for retired military. Veterans, who make up about 22 percent of Schertz’s population, have access to services throughout the region.
