Quality of Life

Festivals and Community Events

Maintaining our collective community heritage is important. The City is proud to host multiple large events throughout the calendar year that celebrate Schertz and the community who make it better on a daily basis. Generations have come to expect a friendly atmosphere, great entertainment, community participation, and a good time for all who visit our annual events: Wilenchik Walk for Life, Jazz N’ Blues in the Park, 4th of July Jubilee, SchertzQ, and Festival of Angels. Additionally, residents also enjoy being a part of the City of San Antonio’s epic week-long Fiesta celebration in which the entire south-central region participates.

Parks and Recreation

Schertz’ system of parks and recreational facilities provide opportunities for a range of activities for both residents and visitors. Currently the City has 21 municipal-owned park locations and recreational facilities which, combined, make up a total of 374 acres. Schertz is home to many of our regional recreational programs including the Buffalo Valley Youth Association, Schertz’ local YMCA, the Schertz Senior Center, and the Greater Randolph Area Youth Soccer Association. Continued growth in our community has brought about many new facilities and additions including the Schertz Skate Park, the Dog Park, the new regional Schertz Soccer Complex  with 12 regulation-sized fields, and the brand new community natatorium at our local YMCA facility.

It exists to encourage and support reading by people of all ages, educational levels, and socioeconomic levels by providing educational, recreational, and cultural materials and programs. The Library works closely with residents and serves the interests of community.
