Retail and leisure are increasingly viewed as essential amenities to a community. When searching for a new location, businesses take available shopping in an area into consideration. As a result, employers have come to realize the importance of a community’s retail sector in retaining and recruiting new businesses and workers.
Recent Renovations and Expansions
In 2016, the City of Schertz saw the completion and grand opening of an ambitious expansion to our local HEB grocery store situated along I-35. The newly-remodeled store is 60,000 square feet and features the company’s new concept restaurant and bar – ‘3 Double-O Nine’. The name stems from the cross street ‘Farm to Market 3009′ (or as it’s called locally, three double o’ nine) which runs alongside the site. 3 Double-O Nine restaurant and bar features items from Houston-based chef Randy Evans, including varieties of burgers, sandwiches, tacos, salads, and pizzas. Additional specialty shops are located within the store.
New Retail Development
Beginning in 2012, the SEDC worked with Schertz Plaza to develop new retail on FM 78. Schertz Plaza is a 25,000 square foot project that has leasable spaces that range from 1,200-8,000 square feet. The SEDC helped to facilitate this project by bringing new retail to the area. The SEDC continues to work with the developer to find new tenants for the remaining available space.
