2009- For the second time in 2 years, Money Magazine names Schertz as one of the top places to live in Texas and the United States. Every two years, Money Magazine releases its list of America’s best small towns. In 2007, Schertz was ranked #40 in the U.S., and was one of only three Texas towns making the top 50 list. The 2009 list of the best small towns in the U.S. is the first ranking by Money Magazine since the national economic recession began in 2007-2008. Thirty-five of 2007’s top 50 cities are absent from the 2009 rankings. Schertz, one of only fifteen cities still ranked in 2009, improved its standing and moved up the list to be named America’s 39th best small town in 2009. This year Friendswood, Texas joined Schertz, Hewitt and Keller on the top 50 list bringing the total number of Texas cities in the top 50 to four.

2009- CPS Energy, a major electricity provider in Schertz, finished as the top-ranked company in the South Region and tied for second nationally among 75 of the largest natural gas utilities, according to the recently released J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Gas Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study™.

2009- CPS Energy became the first utility in the nation to help mid-sized manufacturers implement an energy-efficiency program that makes business and operational practices more cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The Lean, Clean Energy program helps manufacturers make energy-efficiency improvements, implement-pollution prevention strategies and apply lean manufacturing principles.

2009- Fitch Ratings assigns an ‘AA-’ rating to Schertz, Texas’ (the city) $9.5 million general obligation (GO) and refunding bonds, series 2009. In addition, Fitch affirms the approximately $33 million in certificates of obligation and $24 million in GO bonds outstanding at ‘AA-’.

2009- CPS Energy ranks no. 1 for the second year in a row in wind energy capacity among municipal utilities according to The American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) annual rankings of wind power leadership in the U.S.  AWEA also honored CPS Energy with the Municipal Utility of the Year award for its continued growth and leadership in renewable wind energy.

2008- Fitch Ratings assigns an ‘AA-‘ rating to Schertz’s $16.5 million general obligation (GO) bonds, series 2008. The ‘AA-’ rating reflects the city’s sound financial profile and steady economic growth, as well as its moderate capital needs and limited borrowing plans. The city has managed to meet the service demands of a growing population while maintaining a sound financial profile. The general fund has consistently reported positive operating results, and reserve levels have climbed steadily over the past five fiscal years.

2007- Forbes Magazine names Schertz the 21st fastest growing suburb in the United States

2007-Money Magazine ranks Schertz Number 40 in the Top 100 Best Places to Live with a population under 50,000
