Comal and Guadalupe Counties

What makes Schertz, Schertz?

As part of Economic Development Week, we highlight the partnered counties Schertz is located in and the shared assets that influence to be a desired place to live and work.

The three counties:

Comal County

Schertz sits in three jurisdictions, yes, three. The most northern part of the city is in Comal County. Comal County is home to a population of +164,000. It hosts fast-growing and some of the most charming cities and towns in Texas. While charming, it is also all about business; in Schertz alone, Comal County plays a critical role in Schertz business community. The majority of Schertz’s largest manufacturers and distributors are located on the Comal side of Schertz, including Caterpillar, Republic National Distributing, Vision Works, Sysco Foods, and now Amazon, to name a few.

Guadalupe County

The most considerable portion of Schertz sits in Guadalupe County, home to Seguin, Gonzalez, Cibolo, New Berlin, Marion, Kingsbury, McQueeny, and Santa Clara. With a population of 174,000, Guadalupe County is rich in history, business, and Texan culture. From rivers, lakes, and pecans, you cannot help but fall in love with the many corners of the county. Guadalupe County also is important in the diversity of Schertz’ and the county’s diverse economy with large employers located here such as Caterpillar (Seguin), Amazon’s 1M SF distribution facility (Schertz), and as of 2019, Aisin AW’s $400 million manufacturing plant in Cibolo supplying Toyota’s assembly plant in San Antonio.

Bexar County

Schertz’s southwest corner of the city falls in Bexar County. Bexar County is the most populous county with over 2 million residents. It is probably the most well-known of the three counties. It is home to iconic Texas history, Military City USA, and leading companies like Toyota Manufacturing, USAA, and Texas’ grocery chain HEB to name a few. Like Guadalupe and Comal Counties, there is no scarcity of things to do in Bexar County with its nightlife, restaurants, and the Riverwalk; Bexar County is where the action is.

In sum, all three counties’ identities shape Schertz, which gives the city its attributes, quality of life, and diverse economy that is uniquely our own.
